Licensing
Under Florida law, as of this writing on 8/31/09, all motorized vehicles operated on the public roads of this state require some class of operator's license issued by a state. Two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles of less than 50cc engine displacement may be operated by a person holding a valid Class E or better license, with no motorcycle endorsement necessary. More information is available on the Florida Senate web site: Chapter 20: Motor Vehicle Licenses

Anyone can buy a motor vehicle. You only need an ID card for that. You just can't operate the vehicle without a license.

Any two-wheeled or three-wheeled vehicle registered to operate on the road in Florida, and which is classified as a motorcycle, requires a motorcycle endorsement to ride.

Scooter Escapes does not represent itself to be a qualified advisor on legal matters, and is only trying to help people comply with an ever-changing world of laws and regulations involving numerous Federal, State, and Local governing authorities. Any information given on this subject is subject to change without notice.

Warranties
Each brand sold by Scooter Escapes has its own unique warranty. Some are for one year, and cover only certain types of failure on certain parts. Others are for two or more years, and cover parts and labor. Obviously, the better quality scooters typically carry a longer, more inclusive warranty.

All warranties have restrictions. For example, no warranty covers damage due to accident or misuse. Also, many warranties may require the vehicle be regularly service at an approved facility or in an approved manner. Usually, all warranty work must be done at an authorized service center or dealer. Some warranties are not transferable to a new owner if the vehicle is sold.

Scooter Escapes provides warranty repair for those brands we sell, plus a few others (Scooter Escapes is not a dealer for Bajaj, Argo, or QLink, but we still can perform warranty work on these brands). There are exclusions, however. When a person buys a vehicle from an entity other than Scooter Escapes, and then presents that vehicle to Scooter Escapes for warranty repairs, we reserve the right to establish facts relevant to the case prior to performing the said work under warranty. Under certain circumstances, we may decline to honor the warranty, solely at our discretion. We may require documentation to prove the owner has obeyed the terms of the manufacturer's agreement, including warranty registration proof, proof of proper maintenance, or others.

Used vehicles sold by Scooter Escapes most often have no warranty expressed or implied. In some certain cases, if there is residual warranty coverage on the vehicle, and if the warranty is transferable, those vehicles may maintain all or some coverage under the manufacturer's warranty.

Layaway Policy
There are many advantages to layaway:
  • No need for banks or credit checks. Layaway is a simple payment plan wherein you agree to pay Scooter Escapes. No middlemen to pad the price with interest or fees.
  • There is no charge for our layaway service. It's free.
  • You pay no interest. None. If the total price is $1000, and it takes you three months to pay it off, the total cost is still $1000. Not one penny of your money will go to fat multi-million-dollar bonuses for bankers.
  • Warranty clock doesn't start ticking until you take delivery.
  • Lock in low prices during the off-season. Probably the most attractive aspect of layaway is the ability to take advantage of seasonal price dips and take delivery just when everyone else is paying top dollar!
  • Payment plans are flexible. You can pay weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, whenever. You can pay different amounts each time, depending on what you can afford. Just keep in mind, the machine doesn't leave the shop until the last penny is paid.
  • Flexibility is possible. If you decide you want a different color, or a different model, you may be able to change your mind before you take delivery. Try that with financing! With financing, you take the machine with you, and you can't bring it back if you change your mind the next day.

Layaway is a simple agreement between Scooter Escapes and a buyer. The buyer chooses a machine, and pays 1/3 of the sale price as a non-refundable deposit. The buyer pays off the remaining balance within the agreed time frame (usually 90 days) and then takes delivery. No interest is charged, and the original deal price agreed to by both parties cannot be raised.

Call 727-898-6699 for more information. Certain restrictions apply.

What's wrong with "BUY HERE PAY HERE?" Do the math. If you want to buy a scooter, ask the dealer a few questions. First, how much down? Then, how many payments, and how much are the payments. Finally, make sure there are no "fees" or penalties that could add hundreds of dollars to your cost. Now, multiply the number of payments by the payment amount. Add that to the down payment and any other fees or payments. This will give you the actual cost of the "great deal." You may be shocked to learn that you're paying several hundred dollars more than the scooter is worth. Be very careful of "BUY HERE PAY HERE" dealers. Many of them may be very honest people, but not all of them are.

If you're not sure how to do the math, call Scooter Escapes at 727-898-6699.

Online or Internet Scooter and Motorcycle Sales
It is our opinion that a fool and his money are soon parted. Buying a motorscooter or motorcycle online is not wise. Avoid online vehicle sales unless you have no alternative. Support your local dealers, they are the people who will provide parts, service, and warranty repair.

Remember that the "dealer" in California is beyond your reach, unless you intend to drive there and confront him. He probably doesn't sell locally, because he doesn't have a license, or bonding, or insurance, and his vehicles may not even be legal to operate in California. We don't keep track of how many people have bought scooters online, and brought them to us for repairs. Sometimes we can help them, but we don't work on their junk for free. Sometimes we can't help them. Often they tell us they regret their decision.

Online "dealers" have many unfair advantages. They don't have to comply with any of the state, county, or city ordinances or laws which are intended to protect consumers. They don't need bonding, or liability insurance, or even a business license. Motor vehicle dealers in the state of Florida employ thousands of people, pay millions of dollars in fees and taxes, and leave most of the money right here in the local economy. Online "dealers" just take the money straight out of our economy, straight out of our state, and leave consumers with none of the protections afforded by real, legitimate, motor vehicle dealers.

When you buy a scooter or motorcycle online, you deprive a local shop of a needed sale. Now, that store can't afford to keep the same number of workers. Payroll taxes go down. Unemployment costs go up. Thanks very much, for being such a friend to your neighbors and your community, just to save yourself a few dollars. Every time that piece of junk breaks down, thank yourself for being so thrifty. Every time you take it to a local shop for repairs, and the repairs cost almost as much as what you paid for the thing, don't get mad at the shop. He tried to warn you, didn't he? But you wouldn't listen. So just pay the bill and shut up. Next time you want some work done on your internet scooter, take it back to where you bought it, if you can find them.
